What every one has known for awhile is now official: Democrat Tom Perriello will challenge Republican incumbant Virgil Goode for his fifth-district congressional seat. Perriello, an Ablemarle County native, will face Goode on November 4. Goode is seeking a seventh term.

Tom Perriello has now officially snagged the Democratic Party nomination and will face Virgil Goode in November’s fifth-district congressional race.

“The people of our district want leaders who share their values and will fight day and night to create good-paying jobs, make sure every family has access to a doctor, and get America’s national security back on course,” said Perriello in a press release.

“He is already mounting a campaign the likes of which Virgil Goode has not seen,” said Fred Hudson, chairman of the Fifth Congressional District Democratic Committee.

According to Bob Gibson of The Daily Progress, Goode still holds a lead in money but was outraised by Perriello in the fourth quarter of last year.
