UVA women’s basketball point guard Sharnee Zoll, the ACC’s all-time assists leader, has been drafted in the third round of the 2008 WNBA draft. The Los Angeles Sparks made Zoll the 29th overall pick, according to the UVA athletic website. Zoll follows UVA legend and former WNBA star Dawn Staley into the professional ranks—which makes perfect sense, considering that Zoll broke Staley’s 16-year-old ACC career assists record. Staley finished with 729; Zoll upped that to 785. Zoll was also a three-time all-conference selection, and led her team to the second round of this year’s NCAA tournament. WNBA play begins Saturday, May 17, the same day UVA graduation exercises are held.

Sparks are flying for UVA women’s basketball standout, Sharnee Zoll, who’s heading to Los Angeles to play in the WNBA for the Sparks.
