Roger Shifflett had stopped by the gas station he and his wife owned on Route 20 South on the morning of June 20, 1988, when he was shot and killed as part of what appeared to be a $135 robbery. Now, Albemarle County police have charged Alvin Lee Morris, 67, with the crime, according to today’s Daily Progress.
It’s the first cold case that the county police have broken in Chief John Miller’s career. “We don’t put them on the shelf,” Miller told the Progress. “They are there forever.”
Morris, who lives in Gordonsville, is scheduled for a bond hearing this morning.
