With the results of the Falls Church Voter Turnout Challenge revealed, Charlottesville has come up short. Charlottesville Mayor Dave Norris conceded defeat to his Falls Church counterpart.
Last month, Falls Church Mayor Robin Gardner accepted a formal challenge by Norris to compete for the highest voter turnout. According to a press release by the city, Norris chose Falls Church because in the last election it had the largest voter turnout of any city in Virginia with 81 percent.
“It was an ambitious task on our part,” Norris told C-VILLE. The goal, he says, was to register as many people as possible. In the end, the city reached that goal: 8,000 more voters are registered compared to 2004.
Here are the final results: In Charlottesville, 18,942 of 28,678 total voters cast their ballots, or 66.05 percent. In Falls Church, however, 6,750 of 8,445 total voters cast their ballots, or 79.92 percent.
