The Bureau of Labor Statistics has released its report on County Employment and Wages in Virginia for the first quarter of 2008.
At the top of the list, Arlington had an average weekly wage level of $1,473, the highest among Virginia’s 12 counties with employment of 75,000 or more. Albemarle County posted an average weekly wage of $847, and Charlottesville’s average weekly wage was only $813.
Considering that the average weekly wage for the Commonwealth is $918, both localities are underperforming. Maybe a move to Goochland? That county’s weekly wage is a whopping $1,525, though its work force is much smaller than many.
According to the release, among Virginia’s larger counties six had average weekly wages above the national level of $905: Arlington, Fairfax, Alexandria City, Richmond City, Loudoun, and Henrico. Interestingly, Richmond’s wage was reported at $1,114, making its 4.4 percent wage growth the second fastest in the state.
