Feda Kidd Morton, educator and grassroots activist for the Republican Party of Virginia, announced that she will file papers to run for the Fifth Congressional District seat.
In a press release, Morton said that “since Virgil Goode announced that he would not seek the Republican nomination in 2010, I have been overwhelmed with calls and e-mails encouraging me to consider this race.”
For Morton, “government is growing, and personal liberty is shrinking,” factors that cemented her desire to run.
Morton grew up in Buckingham County, graduated from Buckingham County High School and received a degree in biology from Longwood College in 1975. She holds a Master of Education degree in motor learning and sports medicine from UVA.
She currently teaches biology classes in the Fluvanna County School System. In 1991 Morton was appointed to the Fluvanna County School Board, where she served for four years.
In her political career, Morton served as Chairman of the Fluvanna Republican Committee from 1999 to 2005.
