John Waters joins Virginia Film Festival lineup

The theme of this year’s Virginia Film Festival is “Funny Business” and what could be more appropriate than screening John Waters’ movies? John Waters himself.

UVA and the Virginia Film Festival announced today that the legendary artist, filmmaker, photographer, actor and author will be the keynote speaker for the Second Annual Arts Assembly in Old Cabell Hall on November 6.The festival will run November 5 – 8.

Two of his best-known movies, "Pink Flamingos" and "Hairspray," will be screened at the film festival.

"We are thrilled to have John Waters at the Virginia Film Festival. He is a fearless artist whose work as a filmmaker and actor has consistently pushed the established order and opened doors to new forms of expression," said Festival Director Jody Kielbasa in a press release.

 

"I’m very pleased and scared to be here:" John Waters will be joining the Virginia Film Festival November 6, 2009.
