In an e-mail statement to the media, Fifth District Congressman Tom Perriello congratulates Governor-elect Bob McDonnell and pledges “to work with him on bipartisan solutions for our veterans, our transportation, and for creating jobs in this great Commonwealth.”
According to the Virginia State Board of Elections, with 99.7 percent of precincts reporting, McDonnell won 1,157,672 votes (58.64 percent) against Democratic candidate Creigh Deeds’ 814,032 votes (41.23 percent).
In Albemarle County, McDonnell won 15,763 votes, or 50.4 percent. Deeds was 300 votes behind with 15,426 or 49.4 percent.
In the City of Charlottesville, Deeds won overwhelmingly with 7,422 votes, 73.6 percent against 2,639 votes or 26.1 percent for McDonnell.
