Eat, drink, and watch a film on mountaintop removal

This Wednesday and Thursday, Vinegar Hill is showing the new documentary Coal Country.

A "worthy event" alert from your friendly Green Scene blogger: Here’s a chance to learn about/get righteously angry about/reinforce your fervent support for mountaintop removal coal mining. (And funnel a few dollars toward a group that fights it.) This Wednesday and Thursday, Vinegar Hill is showing the new documentary Coal Country. The beneficiary of the screenings, the Wise Energy for Virginia Coalition, is also throwing a reception at Siips on Thursday at 5.

I’ll be there, both to see the film and to hear from coalfield residents Kathy Selvage and Larry Gibson, who will speak at all three events. Check out the movie trailer on this page, where you can also buy tickets in advance.

You know how I feel about mountaintop removal already—namely, angry and sad. I’m looking forward to learning more. Anyone else planning to go?
