WTJU General Manager Burr Beard has resigned

An internal e-mail sent to staff says that "the tug of family concerns…trumped everything."

Burr Beard has resigned less than six month since he became general manager of WTJU, according to an e-mail sent from Marian Anderfuren of the Office of Public Affairs to the station’s volunteer staff. The e-mail cited "family concerns" as the reason for his departure.

Beard provoked widespread consternation with a proposed set of changes that DJs feared would bring an end to free-form programming. Read more about the WTJU controversy here.

According to the e-mail, Beard oversaw in his tenure "the launch of the new website; recruitment of many new student volunteers at fall activities fair; a back-to-school barbecue and station tours for Lambeth students that resulted in volunteer applications; a welcome-back concert for students at the Amphitheatre; and a host of sponsored and partnership events that have reenergized everyone who works at WTJU."

Anderfuren did not immediately return calls for comment. Check back here for updates.
