Wahoos Fall to Heels 62-56

Virginia hung around till the final minute, but Carolina’s foul shooting and deeper bench proved too much for the Wahoos.

Virginia (10-6) fell to Carolina at home Saturday afternoon 62-56. The Tar Heels won the game not inside, nor by making threes, but by making seventeen of twenty-two free throws.

Tony Bennett’s available post players all got into foul trouble, which made it nearly impossible for the Hoos to mount the final comeback. Mike Scott did not play again, and is very likely done for the season.

Virginia shot nearly fifty-four percent from the field in the first stanza, but just twenty-six percent in the second half. Virginia led the game at half-time 37-30.

North Carolina (11-4) had just one player score in double-figures on the afternoon (Tyler Zeller), but Virginia had four guys go for more than ten including super-freshman K.T. Harrell who chipped in thirteen. Assane Sene grabbed eleven rebounds, and also scored eleven.

Virginia needs to have someone on their roster take the ball to the rack! The Hoos also shot only twelve free-throws (8/12). The Wahoos did enjoy a sweet 16-4 run in the first half, but Carolina continued to answer the bell at almost every turn.

The Hoos return to the hardwood Saturday as they travel to lovely Durham to meet Duke at 2 p.m. Go Hoos!
