Tim Kaine will decide Senate candidacy this week, say reports

There is no question whether Tim Kaine will announce his candidacy for the Senate seat currently occupied byDemocrat Jim Webb, says the Washington Post. The only question appears to be: When?

Tim Kaine will reportedly make a decision this week regarding his candidacy for the Senate seat currently occupied by Democrat Jim Webb, says the Washington Post.

According to the Post, Kaine, the current Democratic National Committee Chairman (who is, more currently, on vacation) will soon clarify his intention to run, following a reported chat with President Obama. Kaine was also encouraged to enter the race by U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. The Post also reports that Rep. Gerald Connolly won’t seek the Senate seat and is hopeful that Kaine will throw his hat in.

“Tim is a public servant in the truest sense of the word. He would make a great U.S. Senator and I hope he decides to run,” said Connolly.

Republican candidate George Allen, who dropped a memorable snafu before he dropped the 2006 race to Webb in a 9,000 vote loss, declared his candidacy the race in late January.
