James Madison’s Birthday Celebration

The Montpelier Foundation invites you to a commemoration of the 261st anniversary of the birth of President James Madison on Friday, March 16 at 1:30 p.m. in the Madison Family Cemetery. The United States Marine Corps will present the Presidential Wreath from President Barack Obama, and several local organizations will also present wreaths. After the wreath layings, John A. Ragosta, Resident Fellow, Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, will give remarks entitled “Is James Madison Still Speaking to Us About Religious Freedom?” 
Montpelier’s curatorial team honors Madison’s 261st birthday with the public unveiling of the newly refurnished study, called “Mr. Madison’s Room” by nineteenth-century visitors to Montpelier. House tours begin at 9:30 a.m.
 
In the Grand Salon—The Center for the Constitution launches ConText, an online, crowd-sourced commentary of “Notes of Debates on the Federal Convention of 1787 by James Madison.” Presentation will begin at 11:00 a.m.
 
In honor of James Madison’s birthday, admission to Montpelier’s grounds and ceremony is FREE! House tours are only $10 for adults, and $5 for children ages 6-14.
 
Swim Team Fundraiser
The Virginia Gators of Charlottesville swim team invites you to support the 2012 Gators Shamrock’n Swim. This event will be held on Sunday, March 18, 2012 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. in the Gator Dome at Fairview Pool, 707 Belvedere Blvd, Charlottesville, VA 22901. Team members will be swimming laps to raise $10,000 in sponsorships for the benefit of area swimmers.  To sponsor a swimmer with a tax-deductible donation, please email cmsohara@comcast.net or visit www.VirginiaGators.org and click on the Donate button.

Business Seminar
FOCUS Women’s Resource Center, as part of its 40th anniversary celebration, is offering monthly Brown Bag Lunches on Timely Topics for Women at its offices in the Ix Project, 953 2nd St. SE, Charlottesville.  Ample free parking is available, and the lunches will run from noon to 1:30 p.m.
 
To help celebrate Women’s History Month, March will hold three Brown Bag Lunch Seminars.
 
The next seminar will be held Friday, March 16 on Starting Your Own Business.  Led by Hollie Lee of the City of Charlottesville Office of Economic Development, the seminar will cover topics such looking at whether business ownership is right for you and the steps it takes to set up a successful business.  She will cover removing life clutter to make room for entrepreneurship, setting up your business from idea to market, writing a business plan, and where to go to get help. Bring your own lunch, and FOCUS will provide drinks and dessert.  Pre-registration is appreciated by going to FOCUS’ website at focus.avenue.org or calling 293-2222.
