Walk the talk

If you’ve seen Girl Talk live, you know the rush of hundreds of adrenaline and alcohol-fueled, sweat-drenched tiny dancers grinding against you. Girl Walk/All Day is a feature-length music film that allows you to experience the music of Girl Talk without the slew of neon-clad, underage partiers.  Set to Girl Talk’s mash up album All Day, the film follows three improvisational dancers as they hit the streets of New York City, introducing a little beautiful chaos into the world, just like a Girl Talk show. $5, doors at 8pm, show at 9pm. The Jefferson Theater, 110 E. Main St. Downtown Mall. 594-TIXX.

Monkey see

Those who grew up with stories of the lovable Curious George can probably pin a few banana peel and tree-climbing incidents on the mischevious monkey.  Catch him swinging along the Downtown Mall to celebrate Charlottesville’s 250th anniversary and promote the importance of reading to children.  Starting at the Omni Hotel, Curious George and WVPT’s Cubby the Bear will lead a parade to the Paramount, where there will be a free screening of Curious George: Follow That Monkey!  A monkey and a parade?  Always a win-win situation. Free, 9:30am. Downtown Mall. Info at

Just soothes the soul

If you haven’t seen The Nighthawks by now, you need to get out of the house more often.  This blues-roots-rock band has been kicking ass for more than 30 years, drawing critical acclaim from seasoned musicians and fans alike.  Vocalist Mark Wenner has led the band through various line-ups, and shared the stage with the likes of Carl Perkins, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Elvin Bishop and Warren Haynes. It’s kind of like taking a master class in old school rock‘n‘-roll. $15 in advance, $20 at the door, 8:30pm. Mockingbird Roots Music Hall, 123 W. Beverley St., Staunton. (540) 213-8777.
