Second Annual SARA Three-for-All
Want to compete in a race you don’t have to train for?  On April 14th, from 10:00 a.m. to noon on the Downtown Mall, the Sexual Assault Resource Agency (SARA) will host the second annual Three-for-All, a giant three-legged race to encourage everyone to work together to end sexual assault and abuse.

No running shoes required; just bring a friend.  Participants will gather on the Downtown Mall by the Free Speech Wall, literally get connected to each other, and step together to raise awareness about sexual violence and how to stop it.  There will be fun, food, and festivities for everyone.

SARA’s staff and volunteers want to encourage everyone to play a role in creating a community free from sexual violence by intervening when they witness violence, by speaking out, by educating children about respect and empathy, and by offering help and support to victims.

The non-profit agency expects hundreds of local community members to participate.  “When we came up with this idea last year, we thought this would be a fun way to show how it will take all community members working together to tackle assault and abuse,” said SARA director, Margaret Mikkelsen. Visitors to the 3forall.saracville.org website can view a video of last year’s event showing participants traveling carefully over the mall bricks.

If 500 pairs participate in the race, SARA will break the world record for the most participants in a three-legged race. “Breaking the record would be a bonus, but the important thing is to break the silence around this issue,” says SARA Community Outreach Coordinator, Rachel Smith.

Registration for this family-friendly event is now open at 3forall.saracville.org. Registration is $20 per pair, or $10 per person for larger teams. Participants are encouraged to create an online fundraising page and collect pledges from friends and family.  People of all ages and abilities are encouraged to enter. Civic groups, congregations, workplaces and other groups can form larger teams of multiple pairs. Prizes will be awarded for most money raised, most spirit, and biggest team. Prizes have been donated by Ragged Mountain Running Club. Other event sponsors include Virginia National Bank, C-VILLE Weekly, Alakazam Toys, Crutchfield, and the Downtown Business Association.
