Members of the Faculty Senate Executive Council met with Rector Dragas Monday morning to discuss concerns over UVA President Teresa Sullivan’s recent resignation, and Faculty Senate Chair George Cohen came away saying they had “a cordial discussion”—despite acknowledging that he’d asked the rector to step down.

After the meeting, Executive Council members Cohen, Chris Holstege and Gweneth West compiled a list of four requests of the Board of Visitors. They asked that the Board delay the naming of any interim president to provide an opportunity for shared governance; that President Sullivan be reinstated; that the Board recommend representation by UVA faculty on the Board voting members; and that the Rector and Vice Rector resign in the best interests of the University.

The Senate’s statement didn’t elaborate on how their requests were received, but the community does expect to hear from the Board of Visitors before the day is out, as its members are scheduled to convene at 3 p.m. for an emergency meeting.

Faculty and students are encouraging members of the UVA community to rally on the Lawn ahead of the meeting.
