University of Virginia President Teresa Sullivan will address the Faculty Senate for the first time since she resigned and was reinstated this summer.
The Faculty Senate will hold its meeting in the Abbot Center Auditorium—the same location as the meeting in June, which overflowed into surrounding rooms—Tuesday, August 28, at 5:30pm. The meeting will be open to the public, and will be streamed live for those who are unable to attend.
According to Faculty Senate Chair George Cohen, the meeting will be an “opening day town hall,” during which the president will hold a question and answer session for the faculty.
“Even though it’s a faculty senate meeting, we’ve opened it up to the faculty as a whole,” Cohen said. “As many as we can fit into the auditorium.”
The faculty senate usually holds a meeting at the beginning of the fall semester, Cohen said, but given this summer’s events on Grounds, President Sullivan wanted an opportunity to address specific questions in preparation for the school year.
In addition to the president’s presentation, faculty members will provide updates on the task forces formed following Sullivan’s ouster.
Cohen said the meeting will address faculty concerns, but President Sullivan will likely hold similar meetings for other university groups and stakeholders.
