Each week, C-VILLE’s Green Scene page takes a look at local environmental news. The section’s bulletin board has information on local green events and keeps you up to date on statewide happenings. Got an event or a tip you’d like to see here and in the paper? Write us at news@c-ville.com.
Water party: The Meadow Creek restoration project is wrapping up, and the Nature Conservancy and City of Charlottesville invite you to come celebrate. The event begins at 11am in Greenbrier Park on Saturday, May 18.
Strawberry season: Berry-picking season has been somewhat delayed due to unseasonably cold weather, but most farms and orchards in the area are now opening their fields to the public.
To name a few, Seaman’s Orchard, Chiles Peach Orchard and Farm Market, the Berrypatch, Critzer Family Farm, and Spring Valley Orchard are offering everything from strawberries and blueberries to honey and peaches.
In bloom: See spring’s progression on parade at the Ivy Creek Natural Area during a native plant walk with Ruth Douglas on Saturday, May 18. Meet at the kiosk at 9am to join the free outing.
Hit the trail: There’s still time to sign up for Wild Virginia’s next outing, a day hike in the Austin Mountain area of Shenandoah National Park that will explore geologic features of the Blue Ridge, native wildflowers, and the impact of recent wildfires.
