Seattle-based indie folk-pop quartet Ivan & Alyosha is nothing if not adaptable, which proved to be a crucial trait during the recording of its first full-length album, All the Times We Had. The band felt pressured, fell out of sync, and scrapped the first attempt. But the challenges eventually paid off in a new record that is a thought-provoking balance between the present and the hereafter. While the material is largely autobiographical, the point isn’t about spilling your guts to the listener: “When I’m writing songs, it’s not necessarily a therapy session where I need to get these things off my chest,” said frontman Tim Wilson.
