Each week, C-VILLE’s Green Scene page takes a look at local environmental news. The section’s bulletin board has information on local green events and keeps you up to date on statewide happenings. Got an event or a tip you’d like to see here and in the paper? Write us at news@c-ville.com.
Brown bag it: Every month, the Rivanna Conservation Society hosts a brown bag lunch lecture at the Jefferson-Madison Central Library. On Thursday, August 15, pack yourself a sandwich and join a group of nature lovers and conservationists at noon to learn about the Rivanna River. For more details, e-mail RCS@RivannaRiver.org, or call 977-4837.
Take a hike: Ever seen a cardinal flower, boneset, or jewelwood? Chances are you probably have, but if you join native plant enthusiast Tana Herndon this weekend for an educational nature hike, you’ll learn how to identify those and other Central Virginia wildflowers. Meet by the Ivy Creek Natural Area kiosk near the parking lot at 9am on Saturday, August 17, and wear comfortable shoes.
Blue ribbon: Charlottesville Delegate David Toscano was honored last week for his continuous green energy efforts. The Virginia Sierra Club presented Toscano with the Energy Freedom Award on Monday, August 5, recognizing him for reaching across party lines in his support of keeping the ban on uranium mining in Virginia.
