Green happenings: Charlottesville environmental news and events

Each week, C-VILLE’s Green Scene page takes a look at local environmental news. The section’s bulletin board has information on local green events and keeps you up to date on statewide happenings. Got an event or a tip you’d like to see here and in the paper? Write us at news@c-ville.com.

Transition town: Transition Charlottesville, a local chapter of a global movement addressing energy, climate, and economic issues through action close to home, meets every month to discuss themes, challenges, and goals. This month, join the conversation in the McIntire Room at the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library on Monday, August 26, for a 7pm potluck dinner and roundtable discussion.

Big picture: The Piedmont Environmental Council has partnered with local farms and Rebecca’s Natural Food to host a series on local food. This week’s seminar will focus on different components of running a small farm and how local operations meet the demands of local eaters. Meet at Rebecca’s at 6:30pm on Wednesday, August 21.

Sky circus: Join Dave Hogg of the Monticello Bird club at the Ivy Creek Natural Area for two nights of a special spectacle: the migration of nighthawks, birds whose acrobatic insect-catching makes for a great show. Meet by the kiosk near the parking lot at 7pm Monday, August 26 and Wednesday, August 28.
