The Charlottesville City Council meets at 7pm tonight—Monday, October 7—at City Hall and takes on a full agenda, including ordinances extending benefits to the spouses of city employees in same-sex marriages, allowing for the undergrounding of power lines in McIntire Park, an easement for the Rivanna Pump Station, and establishing rules for tree conservation within the city.
The Charlottesville Planning Commission meets at 5:30pm Tuesday in City Council chambers at City Hall. It will hold public hearings on an ordinance amending the rules defining affordable housing in planned unit developments and one allowing for increased density at The Standard, the latest West Main apartment building. Also to be considered: A Critical Slopes Waiver request and Entrance Corridor Application review for Meadowbrook Flats, the proposed development at 1138 Emmet Street.
The Albemarle County Planning Commission also meets Tuesday, from 6-8pm in Lane Auditorium at the County Office Building on McIntire. Big item: a proposal to add a Costco gas station to the Stonefield development.
Another forum for the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors candidates, this one sponsored by the Senior Statesmen of Virginia, is set for 1:30pm Wednesday at the The Senior Center at Pepsi Place.
The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors gathers Wednesday from 3:15-11pm. Up for discussion throughout the day: The design of the new Northside Library, the ongoing issue of whether to switch to private solid waste convenience centers, the chapters of the Comprehensive Plan addressing natural resources, and a host of zoning applications, including a request for higher density residential construction on Crozet Avenue.
