Now that Pasture is officially open, the next big restaurant to watch at the Shops at Stonefield is Parallel 38—but we may not have to wait much longer. The restaurant’s Facebook page announced two exciting developments recently: “lots of interior work” (think dark walls and rustic, unpainted wood trim) and a call for jobs. Executive chef Justin Ross is looking for capable prep and line cooks to prepare his Mediterranean menu. The Craigslist ad for the restaurant says a mid-November opening is eminent. Looking for a job? Find Parallel 38 on Facebook (facebook.com/Parallel 38). Looking to eat? It won’t be long now.
A few weeks ago, we wrote about The Flat, the Downtown creperie that serves up sweet and savory wraps from a tiny spot behind The Jefferson Theater. Turns out, owner Lauren McRaven is giving you another opportunity—besides your banana and Nutella crepe—to put your money where your mouth is. The pint-sized restaurant is fixin’ to buy a mobile food cart. Through a Kickstarter campaign, McRaven hopes to raise $28,000 by November 10. Help her (and, by extension, you) reach her goal and bring The Flat to the streets. Visit http://kck.st/1bZ0cbv to find out more.
If the Father of Virginia Wine says it’s O.K. to sample the area’s best for six whole hours on a Saturday, who are we to argue? Each fall, Thomas Jefferson’s Forest, Virginia retreat, Poplar Forest, hosts the Thomas Jefferson Wine Festival. This year, 15 area wineries (including two local favorites—Jefferson Vineyards and Gabriele Rause Winery) will be on hand for tastings, plus food vendors, and live music. Get more info (and your $20 ticket) at poplarforest. org/events/wine-festival.
