What’s happening in Charlottesville and Albemarle the week of February 24?

Each week, the news team takes a look at upcoming meetings and events in Charlottesville and Albemarle we think you should know about. Consider it a look into our datebook, and be sure to share newsworthy happenings in the comments section.

  • The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors holds a public hearing on its fiscal year 2015 budget from 6-9pm Monday, February 24 in Lane Auditorium at the County Office Building on McIntire Road. The $349.3 million budget comes with a property tax increase of 1.7 cents per $100 of assessed value. Two more work sessions on the budget will follow later this week, one from 9am-noon Wednesday and another from 9am-noon Friday, both in room 241 at the County Office Building.
  • The Rivanna Solid Waste Authority Board meets from 2-2:15pm Tuesday, followed by a Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority meeting from 2:15-4pm. Both meetings are at the RSWA/RWSA headquarters on Moores Creek Lane.
  • The Places29 Advisory Council meets from 5-6:30pm Thursday in room 235 at the County Office Building. Places29 is the 2011 plan for the Route 29 corridor that includes a number of other improvements intended to alleviate congestion on the highway through Charlottesville and Albemarle. This will be the first meeting since the Federal Highway Administration informed the state Department of Transportation of its desire for more study of alternatives to the Western Bypass.
  • The Charlottesville School Board meets from 5-8pm Thursday at Charlottesville High School.
