Police are investigating a report of a sexual assault near the UVA Corner over the weekend.
According to an alert sent out by the University, Charlottesville police were dispatched to the 100 block of Chancellor Street—a one-way stretch of the residential street close to Elliewood Avenue, the fraternities along Rugby Road, and the offices of UVA’s provost and president—for a report of a possible sex offense. A female victim told police she had been assaulted by an 18-year-old male not believed to be a UVA student who then left the scene.
Police did not provide any other details about the incident, but a bulletin from the Charlottesville Police Department indicates the assault was a forcible fondling.
UVA regularly issues “timely warnings” to the University community when crimes are reported near Grounds, said spokesman Anthony P. de Bruyn.
