Crozet man charged in fatal Augusta crash

A Crozet resident has been charged with two counts of DUI manslaughter and failure to yield stemming from an April 20 car crash in Augusta County that claimed the lives of a Waynesboro mother and daughter. According to a release from the Virginia State Police, a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am was westbound on Route 250 and turning left onto Route 792 when it was struck on the passenger’s side by a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban driven by 60-year-old Kenneth L. Barber.

The occupants of the Grand Am, 44-year-old Sandra L. Martin and her daughter, Haylee Martin, 12, died at the scene.

Both Barber and his male passenger were treated for minor injuries. Barber was being held at the Middle River Regional Jail and was due in Augusta County General District Court on Tuesday, April 21, at 1:45pm, after this paper went to press.
