At home with… Winifred Wegmann

After working at Crème de la Crème for the past nine years, store manager Winifred Wegmann noticed something: “I came to realize how much pleasure I take from helping people find something new for their home that brings them joy.” In March, she set out on her own, opening pour la maison in Townside Shopping Center on Ivy Road. The shop is a pleasant mix of table linens, jewelry and pieces by local artists. Says Wegmann, “We need special and beautiful things in our lives, be it a letterpress card or piece of Italian pottery, to enrich the every day nature of life.” We asked her to tell us what special things she’s been getting into lately.

What are you currently reading? Boys in the Boat and Sisters Antipodes by Jane Alison, a local author.

What are you listening to? Jennifer Warnes, who I heard featured on NPR recently.

What are you watching on TV? “Downton Abbey” and “Grantchester” on PBS.

What are you eating/drinking? My latest dinner party recipe is Ina Garten’s Artichoke and Leek Bread Pudding. We had 30 UVA students for dinner recently, and I made enough to feed an army. Always looking for a good everyday wine. Presently sampling Joyce’s selections of three for $20 at Wine Made Simple.

What are you working on? My new store on Ivy Road. I am so excited to be doing my own thing and, like “the boys in the boat,” I am working night and day to realize a dream.

Want to know more? Stop by the store at 2214 Ivy Rd. Suite 103 in Townside Shopping Center or visit pourlamaisoncville.com to get in touch.
