Tigers scratch Cavs from ACC title hunt

No one can say the UVA football team didn’t have its opportunities. But when Clemson hit a field goal to make the score 13-3 with 2:37 left in the fourth quarter, the Cavaliers were out of timeouts and, after quarterback Marc Verica threw his third interception of the game, out of chances to win the coastal division in the wacky Atlantic Coast Conference.

Now UVA (5-6, 3-4 ACC) must beat the Hokies of Virginia Tech—in Blacksburg no less—in order to be bowl eligible. Virginia hasn’t beaten Virginia Tech since 2003—and hasn’t won in Blacksburg since 1998.
