Governor Tim Kaine and House Speaker William Howell announced today that they have reached a compromise on legislation that will ban smoking in “nearly all” Virginia restaurants.

There is an exception for private clubs and restaurants “with a designated smoking room that’s physically separated and independently ventilated from non-smoking dining areas.”

The legislation is a victory for Kaine, who has pushed a smoking ban in restaurants for several years.
