The weather can’t hold back the Downtown Mall brick. Nay, the brick will go on! In fact, the bricks that were delayed in production are finally here, says Barton Malow Project Manager Chris Weatherford, and another 50,000 should be here by Wednesday. It also appears many of the Downtown crews have emerged from their hibernation and are fast at work. And, with a schedule to keep, that’s a very good thing.
This week*, Central Place will be completed, and the 200 west block (with Mudhouse and The Mole Hole) will celebrate its completion at week’s end with a New Orleans-themed brick party.
The brick party will rage, presumably much like it did this past Chi-tastic weekend. And by "rage," we mean "bomb." (Brick Watch initially heard rumors of $15 cocktails and low attendance, which we can confirm, and will add that The Nook’s "Chicago Dog" was, unfortunately, a pale imitation.)
BW must say, we hope the NOLA block party is a bit more successful (mostly so those $45,000 in the marketing budget don’t go to waste). The New Orleans block party is seemingly pared down from the Chicago iteration, with events only happening on Saturday.
From noon to 5pm, there will be games and jazz music on the 200 block, and starting at 1:30pm you can ice skate for a discounted rate at the ice park. At 3:30pm, there will be a Mardi Gras parade, followed by a costume contest. We’re counting on you brickies to be there for every moment of the fun.
