UVA Law School Professor Jon Cannon, Barack Obama’s pick for second in command at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has withdrawn from consideration due to a scrutiny about a past association, according to the Associated Press.
Cannon once served on the board of directors for the nonprofit America’s Clean Water Foundation. In 2007, the EPA inspector general revealed that the foundation, now defunct, mismanaged $25 million worth of EPA grants.
Locally, Cannon served on the Albemarle County Planning Commission until resigning to work on the Obama transition team.
