Albemarle Supervisors approve fee increase for developers

The Daily Progress reports that the developers in Albemarle County will now have to cover about 50 percent of the cost of reviewing projects.

County Supervisors have approved a measure that will increase fees for all building applications: permits, reviews and inspections.

The Daily Progress reports that the developers will now have to cover about 50 percent of the cost of reviewing projects.

Because of Board Chairman David Slutzky’s concerns that the fees would burden developers in the current dire economic times, he asked for a delay. The increased fee will now go into effect on October 1.

In related development news, the size of the proposed Whole Foods on Hydraulic Road has shrunk up to a third. The Progress reports that the plans went from a 60,000 square-foot structure to a smaller one of 40,000 square feet.

However, the engineering firm responsible for drawing the grocery’s plans wasn’t at liberty to comment on the reason for the size change.
