The search for John Casteen’s successor will begin in August.
The Special Committee on the Nomination of a President is comprised of nine members of the Board of Visitors, six faculty members, two former rectors and two students:

Daniel Abramson, vice rector;
A. Macdonald Caputo, member of the BOV;
Susan Dorsey, member of the BOV;
Helen Dragas, member of the BOV;
Austin Ligon, member of the BOV;

Vincent J. Mastracco Jr., member of the BOV;
Warren M. Thompson, member of the BOV;
Robert Fatton Jr., Professor of Government and Foreign Affairs and associate dean of graduate programs in the College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences;
James Galloway, Professor of Environmental Sciences and associate dean for the sciences in the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences;
Ann Hamric, Professor in the School of Nursing;
John C. Jeffries Jr., Distinguished Professor of Law;
Deborah E. McDowell, director of the Carter G. Woodson Center for African American and African Studies and Alice Griffin Professor of Literary Studies;
Dr. Peyton Taylor, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology; founding director of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology and associate medical director of the Cancer Center;
Thomas Farrell II, former rector and current member of the board of the University’s College at Wise;
Gordon Rainey, former rector and chairman of UVA’s capital campaign;
John Nelson, president of Student Council and UVA senio;
Jenifer Warner, Ph.D. candidate in the School of Engineering and Applied Science.
Casteen is set to step down on August 1, 2010.
