Sylven Landesberg got the best of home-team NC State, and scored 23 points in Virginia’s first ACC game of the Tony Bennett era. Mike Scott added 14 for the Wahoos (9-4, 1-0). Virginia trailed by 10 points at the midway point of the second stanza, but regained the lead as NC State could not hit the broadside of a barn in the final five minutes.
The Wolfpack scored one field-goal in the final five minutes of the contest. Virginia won their fifth game in a row, and will next play Georgia Tech on Wednesday at the John Paul Jones Arena.
On a personal note, I think that my mom, who passed away early in the morning on Saturday, was smiling on Tony Bennett and crew from a much better place. Mom was a HUGE Virginia hoops fan. Here’s to you mom! Go Hoos!
