About us

C-VILLE Weekly is Charlottesville, Virginia’s independent, award-winning alternative newspaper. Through our distinctive coverage, we work to spark curiosity and enable readers to engage meaningfully with their community. In each issue, we amplify unique perspectives, shining a light into the oft-overlooked corners of our city and providing a jumping-off point for our readers to dive deeper into the place we call home.

C-VILLE Weekly publishes news, real estate, arts, food, and culture content every Wednesday and is distributed free at more than 200 locations in Charlottesville, Albemarle, and surrounding counties.

At c-ville.com, readers can find the latest news, event listings, as well as content from our magazines, Abode, Weddings, and Knife & Fork, and Best of C-VILLE. The company also organizes events such as C-VILLE Restaurant Week, C-VILLE Burger Week, and C-VILLE Taco Week.

Founded in 1989 by Bill Chapman and Hawes Spencer, C-VILLE Weekly is now owned by Chapman and Blair Kelly.

C-VILLE provides its award-winning journalism free of charge thanks to financial support from its advertisers and from our Readers of the Free Word, who make one-time or monthly contributions through our Save the Free Word campaign.
