Sips and suppers
Chefs Michael Keaveny and Loren Mendosa of tavola will prepare dinner for 16 to 20 lucky guests in a private residence in Washington, D.C., to support Martha’s Table and D.C. Central Kitchen, which serve the neediest individuals in our nation’s capital by inviting guest chefs to donate their time and skills for the sake of addressing and abolishing the issues of homelessness and poverty.
The two-day event is in its fourth year, and is hosted by celebrity chefs (and advocates of local food and community) Alice Waters and Jose Andres on January 27 from 6-10pm. Tickets cost $550 per person ($450 of which is tax deductible) and can be purchased at 2013suppers.eventbrite.com.
Lunch with benefits
Vinegar Hill Café is now open for breakfast and lunch in the Jefferson School City Center on Fourth Street, serving up inventive sandwiches, wraps, and soup daily. The goal is to create a menu based on local, natural, and wholesome foods to support JABA (Jefferson Area Board for Aging). Proceeds from the Café support the senior meal program, and help maintain affordability, quality, and convenience in independent retirement communities. Visit jabacares.org for more information, or vinegarhillcafe.org for menu details.
And speaking of lunch, C’Ville Coffee delivers! The McIntire Plaza shop has begun providing coffee, sandwiches, and party platters to UVA offices and homes. Visit cvillecoffee.com for further details.
