What’s coming up in Charlottesville-Albemarle the week of September 23?

  • The Piedmont Group of the Sierra Club is hosting sponsoring a forum for the candidates running for the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors. Starting at 7pm on Monday, September 23, candidates will answer a series of questions about the environment in Lane Auditorium at the County Office Building on McIntire Road.

  • Both the city and the county’s planning commissions will convene on Tuesday, September 24 for a joint meeting at 6pm in Lane Auditorium. Following a work session, commissioners will discuss the performance measurement system and ordinance toolkit, which measure the city and county’s performance since updating the Comprehensive Plan.

  • The candidates vying for the Scottsville seat on the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors—Cynthia “Cindi” Burket and Jane Desimone Dittmar—will answer a series of questions at a public forum hosted by Charlottesville Tomorrow and The Daily Progress. The forum will begin at 6:30pm at Paul H. Cale Elementary School on Tuesday, September 24.

  • The organizers of Tomtoberfest will host a forum on Wednesday, September 25, for 10 local entrepreneurs. The “candidates” at the forum will discuss policies and politics of innovation and entrepreneurism, and share their own experiences of starting businesses in Charlottesville and Albemarle. The event begins at 7pm at Old Metropolitan Hall.

  • 350.org Central Virginia, the local chapter of a nationwide group working to combat climate change, is hosting a workshop on new opportunities to go solar in Charlottesville. Speakers will include Sierra Club Virginia Chapter President Ivy Main, Altenergy President Paul Risberg, the Southern Environmental Law Center’s Cale Jaffe, and several other experts on clean energy. The event begins at 7:30pm on Wednesday, September 25, in room 229 of the main auditorium at Piedmont Virginia Community College.

  • The Jefferson Area Tea Party will host back-to-back forums of City Council and Albemarle County Board of Supervisors candidates on Thursday, September 26. The event will begin at 6pm in Lane Auditorium.
