CAAR Installs New Officers And Announces Honor Society Members

CAAR, the voice of real estate in the Central Virginia region, announces the installation of 2012 President, Bradley Conner. Broker and owner of HomeSell Realty, and Associate Broker with Montague Miller & Company, Conner has been a member of CAAR since 2000. A former hotel executive, Conner has been active in the Association and in the Charlottesville community serving in many civic and public service organizations, including the Boy Scouts, Forest Lakes Home Owners Association and in alumni activities for West Virginia University. Conner holds the GRI designation, and is a reliable presence in CAAR and various community service organizations.

CAAR Acknowledges 51 Professional Honor Society Members
CAAR recently recognized 51 REALTOR® members for outstanding accomplishments and contributions to the real estate industry during its breakfast meeting on February 2nd at the Boar’s Head Inn. In order to qualify for CAAR’s Professional Honor Society, REALTORS® meet a series of rigorous standards during the year which include education, participation in REALTOR and community volunteer efforts and success in achieving and encouraging the best in their fellow REALTORS.
 
The Professional Honor Society was instituted by CAAR in 1996. And, each year since that date CAAR has seen a continual increase in the number of REALTORS® for which this prestigious recognition is given. This year’s recipients that were acknowledged included (in alphabetical order):

Life after High School Transition Conference and Resource Fair
PREP/Parent Resource Center, in collaboration with the Virginia Department of Education T/TAC, will sponsor a free conference and resource fair for students with disabilities and their parents.  Community members, educators, and agencies are welcome to attend.
 
The conference will take place on Saturday, February 25, 2012, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Parent Resource Center/Ivy Creek School Building, 225 Lambs Lane, Charlottesville, and will highlight issues such as So You’re 18 – Legal Rights and Responsibilities, Transition 101, Postsecondary Education, Vocational /Employment Options and Supports, and Independent Living and more.  There will be a student-only session addressing Self-Determination taking place throughout the day.
 
The morning- only resource fair will provide participants an opportunity to meet with local agencies and organizations that provide services and support for young adults.  Lunch is provided with pre-registration, giving parents an opportunity to network with each other.

FREE Financial Education Seminar  
The UVa Community Credit Union is offering a free financial education seminar on “Buying Your First Home” on Thursday, February 16, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Berkmar Branch of the UVa Community Credit Union, 3300 Berkmar Drive. This is a must attend, step-by-step guide for first time homebuyers. Get tips on buying the right house. Learn about the different third parties involved and the mortgage loan process. FOCUS Sponsors Informational Lunches for Women 
FOCUS Women’s Resource Center, as part of its 40th anniversary celebration, is offering monthly Brown Bag Lunches on Timely Topics for Women at its offices in the Ix Project, 953 2nd St. SE, Charlottesville.
 
The next Brown Bag Lunch will be held Friday, February 24 from noon to 1:30 p.m. and will be on “The Ten Things You Need To Know About Social Media In 2012.”  Led by Hobby Parent of Creative Soul Juice, it will include such topics as From Your Plan To Your To Don’t List, and What’s New – If It’s Not About You Then Who?”  Bring your lunch and your curiosity and learn more about how social media can help you this year.
