ARTS Pick: Ray LaMontagne

The evolution of Ray LaMontagne has been fun to hear. From the sparse, husky folk of his early records to a recent 40-minute recording steeped in mythology, the spotlight-wary musician brings fans along as he pushes into new sonic territory. Produced by My Morning Jacket’s Jim James and released as an album in March, Ouroboros is named for a Greek symbol depicting a serpent eating its own tail, an image that served as inspiration. “I could see that circle happening in the music,” LaMontagne recently told GrammyPro.

Wednesday 7/20. $35-49, 7pm. Sprint Pavilion, 700 E. Main St., Downtown Mall. 877-CPAV-TIX.
