Tourists beware. The Charlottesville Albemarle Convention & Visitors Bureau Center (CACVB) on Route 20 will close its doors on October 1.

Visitors will be directed to the Downtown visitors center in the transit station on the Downtown Mall.

In a press release, CACVB staff said they are eager to find alternative information services for all visitors coming to the city, and has already targeted other locations in the county that will be serviced with electronic kiosks that provide access to information 24/7 at a decrease in long-term costs.

The building, just below Piedmont Virginia Community College, is jointly owned by the city and county. Plans for redevelopment have not yet been determined.

The Daily Progress reports that visitors to the center declined 90 percent compared to the previous year.
