PICK: Grand Illumination Holiday Concert

Justice fir all: It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Keep that in mind as you hold on to tradition from afar and watch Charlottesville’s Grand Illumination Holiday Concert remotely this December. Performers from around the region, including the Charlottesville High School choirs, Odyssey of Soul, and Rattlebag, take the Paramount stage during a TV broadcast co-hosted by NBC29’s Kasey Hott and Andrea Copeland-Whitsett. At the end of the night, officials will flip the light switch on our locally sourced tree with a crowdsourced name: Spruce Bader Ginsburg.

Friday 12/4, airing on CW29 at 6pm and NBC29 at 7pm.

PICK: Miracle on 34th Street

Miracle on Main Street: During a time when everyone’s faith is being tested, some might wonder if the holiday spirit will prevail. In the holiday classic Miracle on 34th Street, Kris Kringle is put on trial after playing a convincing Santa Claus. His authenticity and mental health are challenged in the courtroom, and it all comes down to one question: Do you believe in Santa Claus?

PICK: Bicycle Thieves

Wheeling and dealing: It’s a time of economic desperation in post-World War II Rome as Antonio Ricci sets out on his bicycle to begin a job that will offer some financial relief for his family of four.  But when his back is turned, the bicycle is stolen—and Ricci’s hopes along with it. Fortunately, he does not give up easily. Listed as one of Turner Classic Movie’s top 15 most influential films, Bicycle Thieves has also been acclaimed by movie directors from around the world. The film is included in the Paramount’s 10-part art house series.

ARTS Pick: MUSE at the Paramount

Hardcore indie rock’s Muse is iconic to the point that fans are filling theaters to watch the rockers fill stadiums via the Drones World Tour broadcast in HD. It’s not quite a live show, but the 360-degree recording, which showcases the best of the band’s 2015-2016 concerts on the big screen, will make you feel like you’re right there among the headbangers.
