Details are emerging about a murder/suicide at the Westhaven housing complex last night.

Update: The Daily Progress reported on December 28 that, contrary to initial reports from city officials, Powell is still alive at the UVA Hospital, though he is considered clinically brain dead.

Details are emerging about a murder/suicide at the Westhaven housing complex last night. According to The Daily Progress, a 19-year-old man who shared an apartment at the complex in the 800 block of Hardy Drive with a 20- or 21-year-old woman whom he was dating, shot the woman in the apartment at approximately 7:50pm, then headed to the parking lot behind the complex, where, according to an eyewitness, he shot himself in the head. The Progress quotes the eyewitness, a neighbor who knew both individuals, as saying, "I can’t believe this happened the day after Christmas."
