When you’re The Boss, good news comes in fives. Last Friday, Rolling Stone reported that Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band had plans for a U.S. tour and a reissue of 1978’s Darkness on the Edge of Town, in addition to the rest of Springsteen’s promising 2009 plans. (Release Working on a Dream, Springsteen’s 16th studio album; perform at the Super Bowl; exact revenge on Peter Gabriel for being shut out of the Oscars).
To be certain, it’s a banner year for ol’ Bruce. Lucky for us, we get to hear the man in the flesh at least once more: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will perform at John Paul Jones Arena on May 5, roughly one year after they last performed in Charlottesville. Tickets range from $67-97, and go on sale on Monday, February 2 at 10am; they may be purchased online, at the JPJ box office, or at Plan 9 Records. Read below the photo for more.

I’ve been spinning Darkness on the Edge of Town a lot lately—it syncs with and surpasses a lot of recent albums by bands like Arcade Fire (who covered "Born in the U.S.A." at one of the inaugural balls) and The Hold Steady (whose singer joined Springsteen for "Rosalita" onstage and holds him in pretty high esteem). The record sounds ripe for re-releasing.
But that’s just my take on the E Street catalogue. What songs still kick the most live, people? Let me hear some of the congregation from the church of Bruuu-uuuce!
UPDATE: I’d also like to hear some reviews of last year’s gig (which had its fair share of Darkness tunes; set list here).
