Starr Hill Presents announces gigs by Steve Earle and Heart

Why is it that when the economy suggests I ought to save my money, our city offers me outlaws and guitar goddesses?

C’mon, everybody! Sing the opening riff from "Barracuda" with me in celebration: Dun da-na-dun da-na-dun da-na-dun da-na-dun da-na-dun da-na-dun da-na-nana! Skyow!

Fine, act too cool for air guitar school. The point is, Starr Hill Presents just announced a gig by Heart on May 20 at the Charlottesville Pavilion. Tickets go on-sale Friday, April 10, at 10am.

But think that purchase over folks, because tickets for another worthwhile gig go on-sale the same day. A little more than a year after his last gig in town, Steve Earle—hopefully packing plenty of tunes from his upcoming Townes Van Zandt tribute record, Townes—returns for a set at The Paramount Theater on June 6.

Former C-VILLE staff writer Scott Weaver (an Earle fan that I believe is currently scorching his own renegade path somewhere west of here) reviewed the last Earle show in town, and his account of the gig should turn any doubters into Earle believers. And for those of you who doubt the awesome powers of Ann and Nancy Wilson? Be still, my Heart:

Crazy on you. Craa-aa-aazy on you. Also, crazy on disco, feathered hair and a guitarist that resembles Luke Skywalker. Heart circa 1976.
