Charlottesville ranked fourth best city by Kiplinger

Charlottesville trails Huntsville, Alabama; Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Washington D.C., but ranks ahead of Atlanta.

The financial crisis doesn’t seem to have hit Charlottesville as hard has other cities in the nation. Sure, we’ve seen closures and layoffs, but Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine has ranked Charlottesville fourth in its Best Cities list.

The list, “Best Cities: It’s All About Jobs,” ranks cities with stable employment and job opportunities available to residents.

Charlottesville trails Huntsville, Alabama; Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Washington D.C., but ranks ahead of Atlanta, Georgia.

According to the magazine, the median household income in Charlottesville is $53,076.

UVA is credited with giving the city a strong business backbone, and NGIC is said to be increasing its workforce of between 800 to 1,600 employees.
