Did you know that Metallica was founded the same year as MTV? It’s true! Meaning that, while we’ve been able to listen to the band go from Kill ‘Em All to Death Magnetic (or Dave Mustaine to Kirk Hammett), we’ve been able to watch James Hetfield change his facial hair. (I kid.)
Truthfully, Metallica’s had a few interesting visual treatments over the years, from the band’s video for "One" (which uses footage from Johnny Got His Gun) to MTV’s 2003 "ICON" tribute, complete with covers by a bunch of bands from the rap-rock and pop-punk booms. (Korn and Limb Bizkit, Avril and Sum 41). I’m posting a few below; add your own in the comments section!
Music video for "One"
A performance of "Battery" from the band’s "S&M" concert, complete with oboe intro!
Video from a live performance of "Fade to Black"
Snoop Dogg, "Sad But True." I hope James Hetfield keeps from shouting "Bounce!" during the chorus. I also hope that Archbishop Don Magic Juan makes a JPJ cameo.
