Charlottesville cyclists ride in silence; Cuccinelli talks abstinence

And other somethings to talk about on your Wednesday

Looking for something to talk about? How about a few things?

  • Tonight, Bike Charlottesville hosts the first local Ride of Silence, as part of a global effort to honor cyclists injured or killed while on public roads. The ride comes one day after the City of Charlottesville released a report on the death of local student and cyclist Matthew King, and said it would not bring criminal charges against a city-employed driver involved in the incident. The ride begins at Charlottesville High School at 7pm, and will cover seven miles. Riders will be escorted by members of the Charlottesville Police Department, and are asked to remain silent during the trip.
  • Prior to the Ride, the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation will present one or more local nonprofits with some part of the foundation’s roughly $30,000 Future Fund. The fund was compiled through donations made by local philanthropists, who pool contributions and then select beneficiaries. The presentation is slated for 6pm at The Haven.
  • Speaking of fundraising, NBC29 reports that Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli voiced his support yesterday evening for Worth Your Wait, an abstinence education program with a presence in more than a dozen Central Virginia school. The organization faces a roughly $1.5 million cut in federal funds.
