Democratic gubernatorial candidate Tim Kaine has a prominent Fifth District Dem in his corner: former Congressional representative Tom Perriello. In an e-mail to his contacts, Perriello asked donors to contribute to Kaine’s campaign prior to a September 30 fundraising deadline, to help his bid against Republican candidate George Allen.
"That man could become our next Senator, a solid champion for social security, economic fairness, and sustainability," said Perriello about Kaine. "Or that seat could be reclaimed by George Allen, and quite possibly delivering the Senate and the legislative branch to special interest groups and tea party."
A recent WaPo poll suggested that, while President Barack Obama’s approval ratings have dipped in Virginia, they are yet to negatively impact Kaine, who is roughly tied with Allen. The pair will meet in a December 7 debate that may not include former state Tea Party Patriot leader and GOP contender Jamie Radtke, along with other GOP and Democratic candidates, due to insufficient poll and fundraising numbers.
