Barbeque, cowboy boots, mason jars, and old country tunes were the elements Meredith and Colt decided were must-haves. “We kind of put the cart before the horse,” she said, “in that we decided what we wanted first and then realized we had a bit of a Southern theme going.”
They settled on their own house—a sprawling farm in Keswick—for the venue. It was originally Colt’s house, and Meredith felt having the ceremony there would carry more meaning than a vineyard or reception hall. “I felt it would be symbolic in the transition from ‘his’ to ‘ours’,” she said. “We also thought it would make the ceremony feel more personal and intimate.”
“Personal” is exactly what they got. The wedding featured all three of Meredith’s kids—Owen, Griffin, and Wren—and a good friend, Peyton Tochterman, played guitar and sang for the couple.
Still, Meredith said the best part of the wedding was her walk down the aisle. “The moment we saw each other…was more than I dreamed it would be. By far my favorite moment of our lives thus far.”
Labor and love
The couple met at Martha Jefferson Hospital. Colt was visiting his business partner’s wife after she’d given birth and Meredith was the nurse on duty.

There’s one simple reason Karen and Jeff wanted to host their wedding at their Albemarle County farm: “We love our home,” she said. “It is one of the more beautiful spots in the county.” Bonus: The couple loves to entertain. “Our home is tranquil and peaceful and we wanted our guests to feel that the day of our wedding.” The couple played off the “farm” feel, adding cowboy boots, hay bales, and stenciled wooden signs. “We went rustic,” she said. They even utilized the 1850s log cabin at the back of their pro
perty, taking pictures on the porch with the band. Sounds like history in the making.
