Update May 6: Today is Give4Good, a massive online giving effort by the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation.

Nonprofits can face a tough road to success, competing constantly for enough money not only to cover overhead costs, but to carry out their missions. On May 6, the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation (CACF) intends to give area nonprofits large and small a big boost with an online giving event that they hope will go viral and bring big bucks to well-deserving organizations’ coffers.

“It’s all about creating this 24-hour blitz of social media activity, making this a viral giving day experience for the community in the best way possible,” said CACF spokesperson Dan Freedman.

Similar events have found great success in other cities, said Freedman, who noted that The Community Foundation that serves Richmond and Central Virginia raised more than a million dollars for charities in a single day. The Charlottesville Give4Good event will allow donors to give to one of 144 area charities in Charlottesville and surrounding counties, and the nonprofits are encouraged to do their own outreach to encourage giving. There are $16,000 in prizes and matching grants for charities that raise the most funds in a variety of categories.

Give4Good will be headquartered at Old Metropolitan Hall on the Downtown Mall from 11am to 2pm. Donations can be made through the website at www.givegreatercville.org.
